WHAT THE HECK IS IN SAN ANTONIO?
Well, for starters we will be 302 in May 2020. That’s right, we’ve got A LOT of history and the Battle of the Alamo is just one of many stories you’ll learn during your time at the Summit. We’re also home to one of the best NBA teams, The San Antonio Spurs. We are also home to the largest bat colony in world, the famous River Walk, and the best tacos in Texas.
We also have beautiful historic missions that are a UNESCO world heritage site and span the San Antonio River for several miles south of Downtown. The best way to view and visit them is on a bike!
Between historic sites and artists turning old dilapitated areas of town into works of art, everyone will find something they love in San Antonio. As we get closer to the Summit, we’ll share a longer list of awesome things you can see and do during your stay in San Antonio.
TRAVELING TO SAN ANTONIO
The San Antonio International Airport is located smack in the middle of the city and is only about a 10-minute ride downtown. You can easily get a shuttle, uber, Lyft, or have an Awesome friend pick you up.
WHERE TO STAY
We recommend staying inside Loop 410 (Map). If you’re opting for a hotel, we have plenty of places to stay in the downtown area but we recommend staying closer to the City Center. Neighborhoods you can look at on Airbnb include:
Southtown
King William
Monte Vista
Beacon Hill
Government Hill
Olmos Park
Midtown
Mahncke Park (pronounced MAN-KEE)
Anything walking distance to the Pearl
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE?
In May, San Antonio is just warm (or hot for some of our friends up North) enough to take a mid-day dip in the pool. You can expect highs of 85 with lows of 65. This is the best weather for wearing shorts and tank tops (and maybe a sweater in the evening). Do you plan on staying in Texas a little longer? Don’t forget your swimsuit because just a few miles north you can float the Guadalupe River.
CAN I FLY INTO AUSTIN, TX?
Yes! We are just 90 miles south of Austin. If you plan on renting a car and making a longer trip to explore our great state, we recommend spending a day or two in Austin, then driving down 1-35 towards San Antonio. It takes at most a couple of hours to get to San Antonio, so we recommend making a pitstop at the Buc-ees (the best dang gas station you’ll ever go to) in New Braunfels, TX.
